DIARY:   Ruminations, Occasional thoughts & happenings - as they arise

Summer's End? - 23  August 2005, Tuesday

Ach well! I suppose it has to happen. The rain comes and the winds begin to blow.
There is the first faint chill of Autumn.
In this part of Ireland, and I suppose in all other areas, we have had a marvellous couple of months, remarkable stability of temperatures in the 20s - even up to 29ºC - with hour after hour of delightful sunshine.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not a sun worshipper! I can't bear lying around cooking in the heat. I just can't stick it! But I do love the ambient temperatures, a lovely little breeze sifting through the open bedroom window in the morning, rising early to amble around my wilderness garden in the sun, sitting under a brolly sipping a cool drink and - above all - dining in the open air.

Living becomes pleasant. Activity becomes enjoyable.

One of my open air pursuits is now more or less complete.
My 'Murial'! Painted on the rough wall of an old shed. Great outdoor activity for a 72-year-old who does not wish to lie around in the sun!

An image of self?

Some will not like it - 'cos it's a bit cheeky - but it causes me to smile.

At least I am not massively conceited (only a little) - not totally obsessive - not out to rule the world or recreate it according to my image or prescription.

If only Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin had had a glimmer of humour about themselves and the world they lived in we might have been spared much suffering!
(This Diary entry of a couple of years ago is relevant.)
Same goes for many other people with obsessive compulsions.
I leave you to compile the list.

PS: I have just remembered that I wrote a rant'n'rave article about obsessions in the Forum pages of this site.
