A Death or Two - 1 April 2005

Well, it happens to each one of us, and as grieving families we mark the event.

Last week my brother Gerry and I renovated our parents' grave in St. Nicholas' cemetery, across the road from where I now live.
It was badly needed.  Look at what existed. You could hardly read it, and although I had given a stonemason instructions to add my son's name when he was tragically killed by a milk lorry 25 years ago, it had not been done - and I never had the heart to pursue the matter.

Upon our father's death in 1960 our mother had erected a memorial slab of fine old Mourne granite, and had added the inscription in leaded lettering, which had fallen off over the years.
Gerry and I decided that renovation was overdue.  The whole thing was a disgrace!
So we had the surface shaved, re-polished and lettering engraved, to produce this:

Much better - I'm sure you will agree.
And then, while fiddling around with pictures today, I added a predictive addition.  Take note!

I might be a bit over-optimistic, but what the hell - y'never know! Whatever the good Lord Jesus decides.
And do note today's date!
