Maya's Birthday! - 5th September 2005, Monday

My little granddaughter Maya - that's her on the left - celebrated her 5th birthday today.  Well, the actual celebration party was held on the Sunday, so that her small pals and their mums and dads would be free.

It was a jolly affair, full of little kids running madcap.  Well worth my trip up to Dublin, staying with Ray and Audrey in their 2-bedroom house in Shankill.

This is the house - semi-detached, located in the beautifully wooded Crinken Glen on the outskirts of the village. Grand little spot, but I wouldn't like to be paying the rent they have to fork out each month!  Property costs in and around Dublin are horrendous - practically a blasphemy, driven by free-market money greed.  If Bertie was a benevolent dictator and not the democratically elected Taoiseach - (pronounced Tee-Shock!  Prime Minister in English) - he would be morally justified in cutting all property values by half, making this small house worth €200,000  (GB£135,366) as opposed to the present  €400,000  (GB£270,750).
(Mustn't allow disgust at this situation to distract from our family celebration!)

Little ol' guys gathered in the pleasant backyard, ready to eat and drink.....

....... leap around in a bouncy castle ......

...... show off one's muscles ......                ..... or get lost in a box

..... but best of all was 'Pass the Parcel'.  (I don't suppose you remember playing it? Unwrapping one layer before passing it to the next person, until it gets to the Winner?)

...... though for one little girl the best moment was the singing of 'Happy Birthday to You' as the Barbie Cake appeared
(... to special order! Next year I hope it's something different!
I can't
stand the lunacy of Barbie - long-legged phantasy!)

During the party Audrey's friend Trish dropped in:

Great Party! I enjoyed it!

Early next morning it was off with the party dress and away to Big School!
